Tacaná

This photo was taken in a small village outside the Municipality of Tacaná, along the Mexican border in the western state of San Marcos in Guatemala.  People there lead lives that residents of "developed" nations may consider simple - and although this photo exemplifies many of the positive aspects of that stereotype: self-sufficiency, humility, and communion with nature, there are a whole host of complications lurking at every corner.  Whether its simplicity is deceptive or not, the honesty and rugged charm of the moment are undeniable.
